THATCHMIRE STUD – Was started by Pauline Cowey who although passionate about horses was from a non-horsy family. It has been built up from a dilapidated farm and outbuildings into the smart and still developing stud that it is today. There has been a lot of personal adversity for Pauline along the way but the first of the stud’s horses are now due on track. Pauline chose her broodmares primarily for conformation and soundness and as such has been rewarded with well conformed offspring. The stud started with 2 mares from very good point to point and N. Hunt families and these have now been joined by two younger mares, the youngest of which is by King’s Theatre out of an unraced French bred mare from the top French N. Hunt family of Mansonnien – the leading French N. Hunt stallion until his death.
The stud holds commanding views across the N. Yorks moors and the North Sea but is easily accessed from the A171 Whitby moor road. For those who would enjoy a week’s stay at the stud, there is a self-catering cottage attached – I can highly recommend it with its impressive views across the North Yorkshire Moors towards the sea. The bustling (Winter & Summer) fishing town of Whitby is only 8 miles away.
